Sankey Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry at the Sankey Center provides after school and summer programming for economically disadvantaged, school aged, urban youth. The children find a staff who cares about their individual hurts, concerns, circumstances and goals, caring men and women who listen to them, counsel them, accept them, encourage them and help them to become the leaders of the next generation (prevention at its finest) as they introduce them to the only One who can really change their lives, the Lord Jesus Christ .
After School Programming
With a biblical perspective, the after school programming focuses on building assets within the children in a safe, supportive environement.
Activities include tutoring, educational contests, reading support, holiday parties, computer lab, educational incentive programs, bible study, arts and crafts, Stomp Team and a Boy Scout basketball program. The older youth also have the opportunity to participate in a basketball league, the College Connection Program, career fairs and employment readiness training.
Summer Programming
The 8 week summer youth programming operates from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and focuses on providing a safe, fun, supervised environment. While the overall objectives for the summer program remain the same as that of the after school program, the emphasis in the summer program shifts from educational to a more recreational approach. The activities include sports, games, bible studies, and field trips.
